R.I.P. Brick & Mortar Coin Stores

The traditional coin store will be extinct in just a few short years and there is little that can be done to change this fact.  In fact, many establishments that we recognize as coin shops are no longer such; stores that once almost exclusively offered Numismatic material have now been forced to diversify to remain open.

As I’ve said before, this site is really promising.  I've seen some recent changes and they are all very positive.  My intention is to write a few articles on areas/eras that interest me.  Hopefully, I can encourage others to do the same.  If we start posting more content, than we should be able to attract and retain more members.

I had a great time at the Whitman-Baltimore Show today.  $17.00 in tolls $25.00 to park, but great people & great coin, so it was all worth it.  I can't wait for the next show.Smile

Imperfection is Okay

Early on, I started to become obsessed with perfection, but my limited budget was reality hanging over my head.

In my field of interest there are few perfect specimens and the ones to do exist tend to reside in museums.  In fact most of the coins I collect were manually struck (“hammered”), so they probably weren’t perfect on the day they were minted.
